Aluminium 5005H34 Checker Plate

Aluminium 5005H34 checker plate (also called tread plate or floor plate) is the same 5005 alloy in H34 temper with a raised diamond or five-bar anti-slip pattern on one face. The raised pattern provides grip in underfoot applications and adds stiffness. It is widely used in industrial flooring, vehicle bodies, ramps, access platforms, and toolboxes across Australia.

Available thicknesses

3.0mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm (nominal base thickness, excluding tread height)

What is Aluminium Checker Plate?

Aluminium checker plate (tread plate) is aluminium sheet with a raised diamond or elongated bar pattern on one face, produced during the rolling process. The pattern increases the coefficient of friction for underfoot safety and adds stiffness to the panel. The nominal thickness refers to the base metal only — the raised pattern adds approximately 1.0–1.5mm to the total height.

Ferracut uses 5005H34 checker plate, which offers the same corrosion resistance and anodising quality as flat 5005H34 while adding the functional tread surface. It is the standard alloy for aluminium tread plate in Australian building, vehicle, and marine applications.

Laser Cutting Checker Plate

Laser cutting aluminium checker plate requires more power than flat sheet due to the raised pattern. Ferracut's fibre laser systems are configured to handle tread plate in all available thicknesses. The cut is made from the tread side, producing clean, square edges. For parts requiring a specific tread orientation relative to the cut profile, note this in your order.

Laser cutting is ideal for custom floor panels, ramp sections, toolbox lids and sides, vehicle running boards, and structural gussets where precise dimensions are required and plasma or saw cutting tolerances are insufficient.

Available Thicknesses

Aluminium checker plate is available in: 3.0mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, and 6.0mm (nominal base thickness). Maximum sheet size 3000mm × 1500mm.

Tolerances and Edge Quality

Cut tolerances are ±0.2mm to ±0.3mm, slightly wider than flat sheet due to the irregular surface. Cut edges are clean and free of burr in most cases. For safety applications, inspect and de-burr edges where personnel contact is expected.

Common Applications

  • Industrial floor panels and mezzanine decking
  • Vehicle running boards and step plates
  • Truck tray liners and ute tub floors
  • Ramp surfaces and access platforms
  • Toolbox lids and sides
  • Marine deck plating
  • Workshop floor plates and machine covers

File Preparation Tips

Submit DXF or DWG. If tread pattern orientation matters, add a note — standard supply has the tread bars running parallel to the shorter sheet dimension. Minimum hole diameter should be 4mm due to the material thickness range. Complex profiles with many holes are well suited to laser cutting.
