Aluminium 5005H34
Aluminium 5005H34 is a mid-strength aluminium-magnesium alloy in the H34 temper (strain hardened and stabilised). It is the most widely specified aluminium sheet in Australian architectural, marine, and signage applications due to its excellent corrosion resistance, superior anodising quality, and good formability. The 5005 alloy produces a bright, even anodised finish with consistent colour across batches.

What is Aluminium 5005H34?
Aluminium 5005 is a wrought aluminium-magnesium alloy with approximately 0.8% magnesium content. The H34 temper designation indicates the sheet has been strain hardened to three-quarters hard and then stabilised by a low-temperature anneal. This produces a combination of moderate strength, good ductility, and excellent surface quality suitable for forming and anodising.
5005H34 is the go-to alloy for Australian architects, fabricators, and signmakers because its low iron and silicon content produces an exceptionally clean, uniform anodised surface. It is suitable for both natural (clear) and coloured anodising, and the finish is consistent across production batches — critical for large architectural projects.
Why Laser Cut Aluminium 5005H34?
Fibre laser cutting is the preferred method for aluminium processing. Modern fibre lasers at Ferracut use nitrogen as the assist gas, producing oxide-free, clean-cut edges with no discolouration. This is important for parts that will be anodised, as oxidised edges can cause colour variation in the anodising bath.
Laser cutting is ideal for panels, nameplates, signage blanks, marine fittings, cladding components, and custom brackets where dimensional precision and surface quality matter.
Available Thicknesses
Ferracut offers Aluminium 5005H34 in: 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm, 8.0mm, 10.0mm, 12.0mm, 16.0mm, and 20.0mm. Maximum sheet size 3000mm × 1500mm.
Tolerances and Edge Quality
Laser cut tolerances for aluminium are ±0.1mm to ±0.2mm depending on thickness. Fibre laser cutting with nitrogen assist produces bright, mill-quality edges with no heat tint. Parts destined for anodising can go directly to the anodiser without edge rework in most applications.
Common Applications
- Architectural cladding panels and facades
- Marine fittings and boat hardware
- Signage and wayfinding systems
- LED light housings and heat sinks
- Truck body and trailer components
- Custom nameplates and tags
- Decorative screens and perforated panels
Anodising and Finishing Notes
5005H34 anodises to a bright, even finish in natural, bronze, and black. For best results, specify that laser-cut edges be de-burred before anodising. The alloy is compatible with clear lacquer, powder coat, and PVDF coatings as alternatives to anodising.
File Preparation Tips
Submit DXF or DWG files. For panels larger than 800mm × 800mm, add a note specifying the grain direction (rolling direction) if aesthetics are critical. Minimum hole diameter should be at least equal to the material thickness. For parts to be anodised, avoid very tight internal corners as they can create stress concentration in the anodised layer.
